It Was Bound to Happen

I've been m.i.a for the past week due to the fact I spilled hot chocolate over my laptop and it ended up dying on me. Ray tried to save it but it was time. Good thing Ray bought a time capsule to back up thousands of dollars worth of music and the priceless pictures of I took of Georgie over the past six months but... I installed it incorrectly and ended up damaging the capsule and losing all of it.

I felt as though I was in a 12 step program except the first step was admitting I made a mistake and the last step was coming to terms with my loss and moving on. Thankfully, (and as much as I hear people complaining that I post too many pics) there's a method to my madness and I was able to save some most of the pictures via Facebook.

I'm surprised I don't have much more to write about. The weekend flew by, as usual. Ray and I found a new park close by with an awesome water sprinkler. Ray's family came for a visit on Friday and I went to my best friends 30th birthday party on Saturday while Ray babysat. I felt like a 'mom' being there. Everyone was asking about the baby and I was showing pictures. After a drink and feeling a little tipsy, I realized how much I enjoy being home with my family now and how much that has changed over the past year. It still is crazy for me to think that I have a family now and when I'm out that my husband and daughter are waiting for me to come home. Best feeling ever.

Anyway, got myself a new laptop and back in action!

Fashion Sense...Less

The weekend before I found out I was pregnant, my mom came into town for Mother's Day. A tradition we started about four years ago.

Her visits consist mainly of vintage and consignment shopping. She's my 'fashion guru' and has an eye for what looks best on people. The ability to convince a person to wear something out of their comfort zone and wear it with confidence.

I'm not much for prints. There's a consignment store down the street from me called Eva Gentry. The store carries labels such as Gucci, Prada, Chanel, Rick Owens, etc. The reason I love consignment stores is because you can find pieces that no one else has, the classics (and not to mention, at a less expensive price). My mother picked out a long sleeve, above the knee, printed dress with gold buttons. I wore it that night when we went to Pastis to meet Ray and his mother for dinner.

When finding out I was pregnant, I swore that I wouldn't become one of those mothers that wore sweat pants and sports bra's all day. I was determined to keep my appearance fresh and fashionable. Well, I recently noticed that I'm washing the same two shirts and shorts more often than not - a black and grey, T-back tank by Alexander Wang and cut-off, Levi jean shorts with a sports bra to match. My wardrobe is officially collecting dust!

I'm looking forward to Fall which will permit me to take advantage of my addiction...coats. A simply t-shirt and jeans isn't as boring when you throw on a purple, military style, corduroy coat by Tocca.

I'm starting Georgie young when it comes to vintage and consignment shopping - a tradition I hope to pass down to her!

Miss Independent

"The older your child gets, the more she realizes she's an individual separate from you. With her growing identity comes a need to do things on her own." Says the website, Babycenter.

Everyday is a new adventure in the city for Georgie. Her stare is so intense when she's looking around in her stroller or carrier. There's a bench that's up the street from us; On a street called Court. It's where all the shopping and restaurants are. Most days, her and I will sit and people watch. Whether it's at nannies pushing strollers, trucks being unloaded, people grocery shopping, dogs barking, or cars constantly honking, she's enthralled. There's no more crying every minute to be fed or wanting mama to rock her.

Georgie is developing a new sense of self and I can notice it progressing everyday. She's able to hold her own bottle, know when nap time is, scream at me when I don't pay attention to her and charm the pants off everyone she meets (sometimes I'll even get free coffee out of it).

I often forget she's only six months old with her full head of white hair and bracelets to match. Georgie is growing up before my eyes and I wait in anticipation to see what the next day will bring. Though I get frustrated sometimes when she only wants mama, deep down it's something I cherish and hope it never fades.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn

And we're home... Pittsburgh was a blast as usual and go, go, go the moment we were picked up from the airport. My family is large and I like to see everyone plus one. More so, it's important for Georgie to get to know her family and learn how to interact around large groups of people since it's mainly her and I all day. I love that she's a mama's girl but...well you know what I mean.

We were picked up from the airport by my mom and grandma and then headed to Bravo for lunch. After lunch, we went to the mall (which I haven't been to since high school) because my intention was to get her ears pierced but I totally chickened out. Instead, I bought a dress for Ray's brothers wedding. Later that night, my two cousins, Rachel and Mimi and my niece, Sarah came over for dinner and a sleepover (too bad I was in bed at 8pm). They're all so sweet.

Friday morning, my mom scheduled pedicures followed by lunch with my bff Cathy and her son and boyfriend. We went to Eat n Park which again, I haven't been to since high school but their cookies still taste the same! Later that day, we picked up my grandma and packed up the car and headed to the lake house to meet my dad, Troy, Connie, and the kids. It was so sweet to see Georgie interact with her adorable cousins.

Saturday morning was a nice run around the lake with breakfast afterwards. All my nieces came up later that day and slept over. We played a few rounds of 'corn hole' which I'm really not good at but my brother, Troy rocked it and thankfully was my teammate.

Sunday morning was the same set up but instead of corn hole, we went on a boat ride around the lake with just the girls. Georgie loved every minute of it while I caught some rays. Later that night, we headed back to the farm house for dinner and my Aunt Patty, her husband, my bff April and her daughter, my brother Chris and my nieces all came over.

Monday morning my mom did my hair and I packed up to head home and see my husband on our one year anniversary. The year flew by and was filled with nothing but sweet memories.

All in all, it was a successful trip in getting to see everyone in such a short time frame! Glad to be back in BK with 'my' family (after a year, it's still strange saying that but a good strange.)
